#60. Abundance
I think we've about exhausted our stay here, yup.
I wonder if Bianca ever made it to where she was going!
Music: HeartGold/SoulSilver - Johto Route 47
Ah, a balloon at the seashore? What a weird monster.
Drifblim
Drifblim carries people and Pokémon when it flies. It can generate and release gas within its body. That's how it can control the altitude of its drift. But since it only drifts, it can end up anywhere. It's drowsy in daytime, but at dusk, swarms of them are carried aloft on winds. When noticed, they suddenly vanish. No one knows where they go.
Choro Notes: Drifblim can be really effective users of Pain Split, and are nice defensive guys. Be careful when you punch them apart because sometimes their Aftermath ability inflicts damage!
Zorak Notes: 2spooky4me
HulkaMatt Notes: DRIFBLIM IS . . . a balloon. Whoooooo . . . has flaps aaaaaaaaaaaaaand has a flying nimbus on its head. I LIKE IT. THUMBS UP.
Quit peekin'!
Shuckle
Shuckle quietly hides itself under rocks, keeping its body concealed inside its hard shell while eating berries it has stored away. The berries mix with its body fluids to become a juice.
Choro Notes: Shuckle used to have a neat little trick. If you let them hold a Berry in Gold, Silver or Crystal. Eventually the berry will transform into a Berry Juice! This doesn't work anymore but wild Shuckle will still carry the juice.
Zorak Notes: LITTLE KNOWN TRUE SHUCKLE FACT: you can play their shells like an ocarina.
HulkaMatt Notes: Shuckle is gangster and has so much D you might as well put him on your basketball team.
Huh, thing out there. Yup. I ain't goin' for it though!
Screw it!
Let's see your timing!
Great timing. One in a million!
Your timing problem was being on this bridge at the same time as me!
People shouldn't litter.
Ah, man. I feel bad for anyone who can't see all these waterfalls. It's super impressive!
AH!
Shoot that was cool!
Tropius
Tropius loves fruit, and eats it continuously. Apparently, its love for fruit resulted in its own outgrowth of fruit. In the spring, it scatters pollen from its neck. Children of the southern tropics eat as snacks the fruit that grows in bunches around the neck of Tropius. This Pokémon flies by flapping the leaves on its back as if they were wings.
Choro Notes: Tropius's dream world ability, Harvest is also shared with Exeggutor's family. If the user eats a held berry it has a 50% chance of just growing another! Neat!
Zorak Notes: Apparently it grows fruit as it has eaten a lot of fruit. Children meanwhile love to eat its beardfruit. Does this mean humans who eat its fruit will in turn grow a bananabeard? (yes)
HulkaMatt Notes: FUCKING SHIT, LET ME TELL YOU WHY TROPIUS IS THE MOST AWESOME MOTHERFUCKING BAD ASS POKéMANS THERE IS. He's a dinosaur with bananas.
Choro Notes: The Reaper Cloth is a hold-item that evolves Dusclops into Dusknoir when traded while holding it. No other use!
Ah.
Uh, well. We're casual acquaintances.
end of the land and the top of the sky."
Pokémon understand one another."
Choro Notes: Bulk Up boosts the user's Attack and Defense stats. Woo!
to build a new world!"
itself changes."
Wow you're full of wisdom, guy. Much nicer than that jerk Zinzolin!
information I require."
seeing how you lot will do."
Yeah, whatever officer Looker.
Getting a sinking feeling about this whole thing.
Ah-
-ah. . .
That was . . . tactical precision. Dag.
Jigglypuff
It captivates foes with its huge, round eyes, then lulls them to sleep by singing a soothing melody. Jigglypuff's vocal chords can freely adjust the wavelength of its voice. This Pokémon uses this ability to sing at precisely the right wavelength to make its foes most drowsy. The sound waves of its singing voice match the brain waves of someone in a deep sleep. While it is singing, it never pauses to breathe. If it is in a battle against an opponent that does not easily fall asleep, this species cannot breathe, endangering its life. For this reason, Jigglypuff will inflate itself before starting its song.
Choro Notes: Oh Jiggs, you're still just puffin' around, aren't you? You can also find Wigglytuff in the rustling grass.
Zorak Notes: Will pop if you stick them with a needle.
HulkaMatt Notes: According to a friend of mine, the best Pokémon there is. I don't know if I agree with him but hey there you go.
Oh! You! I need one of you!
Mienshao
Mienshao wields the fur on its arms like a whip. Its arm attacks come with such rapidity that they cannot even be seen. It launches into combo attacks that, once started, no one can stop.
Choro Notes: I use a Mienshao named Wonton. It will always be "the soup weasel" to me.
Zorak Notes: Cool as hell kung-fu weasel. He'll eat your soup if you let him
HulkaMatt Notes: Reminds me too much of the purple cat. Kind of wish it kept the same color scheme that it had when it was a Mienfoo~
Alright, what's this then?
S'zat like, a wizard or somethin'?
Ah, I dun really know about shrining . . .
. . . . . *yaaaaaaaaawwwwnnn*
Slowpoke
Incredibly slow and dopey. It takes 5 seconds for it to feel pain when under attack. Slowpoke uses its tail to catch prey by dipping it in water at the side of a river. However, this Pokémon often forgets what it's doing and often spends entire days just loafing at water's edge. Although slow, it is skilled at fishing with its tail. It does not feel pain if its tail is bitten. A sweet sap leaks from its tail's tip. Although not nutritious, the tail is pleasant to chew on.
Choro Notes: Amusingly, you can also find Slowbro AND Slowking if you look in the rippling water long enough.
Zorak Notes: A TINY FUCKIN HIPPO
HulkaMatt Notes: Hey guys, have you heard of this game called Pokémon? There are 150 of them . . . . . . . . OK, yeah so Slowpoke is awesome and fuses with Shellder to evolve. -HOLY SHIT-
Choro Notes: Finally! Flamethrower is the Fire-type equivalent to Thunderbolt and Ice Beam. Really handy!
I know a chubby lady that would like you!
Hmm?
Is this the shrine?
So . . . you are not Landorus then.
Are you Landorus?
Vulpix
Inside Vulpix's body burns a flame that never goes out. During the daytime, when the temperatures rise, this Pokémon releases flames from its mouth to prevent its body from growing too hot. It can freely control fire, making fiery orbs fly like will-o'-the-wisps. If it is attacked by an enemy that is stronger than itself, it feigns injury to fool the enemy and escapes. At the time of its birth, Vulpix has one white tail. The tail separates into six if this Pokémon receives plenty of love from its Trainer. The six tails become magnificently curled. Just before evolution, its six tails grow hot as if on fire.
Choro Notes: You can also find Ninetales, Vulpix's evolved form in the rustling grass around the shrine. Their kitsune-ness is very fitting for the area . . . Their dream world ability was previously unique to Groudon; it makes sunlight last for the rest of the battle when it enters the field.
Zorak Notes: Quite.
HulkaMatt Notes: Cute lil fox :3 One of the more ~adorbs~ Pokémon from Gen1
There sure are a lot of people here. Abundant with people!
Oh, there's something wrong with this Sawsbuck . . .
Stantler
Stantler's magnificent antlers were traded at high prices as works of art. As a result, this Pokémon was hunted close to extinction by those who were after the priceless antlers. The curved antlers subtly change the flow of air to create a strange space where reality is distorted. Those who stare at its antlers will gradually lose control of their senses and be unable to stand. It creates an odd sensation as if one were being drawn into their centers. The round balls found on the fallen antlers can supposedly be ground into a powder that aids in sleeping.
Choro Notes: Stantler are cool deer that aren't quite sure what they want to do. They have a nice wide movepool so go nuts!
Zorak Notes: Horns so crazy they distort reality and drive people nutter. THIS IS HOW POKéSANTA WORKS.
HulkaMatt Notes: : IT'S A DEER!!!!!!!! A REINDEER!!!!!! SANTA CLAUS IS COMIN' TO JOHTO
Wow, seriously there are a ton of things . . .
Chimecho
In high winds, Chimecho cries as it hangs from a tree branch or the eaves of a building using a suction cup on its head. It makes its cries echo inside its hollow body. When this Pokémon becomes enraged, its cries result in ultrasonic waves that have the power to knock foes flying. This Pokémon plucks berries with its long tail and eats them. They fly about very actively when the hot season arrives. They communicate among themselves using seven different and distinguishing cries.
Choro Notes: Still always happy. I think I've shown it off sufficiently!
Zorak Notes: Basically a bell-youkai when you get down to it. They do that.
HulkaMatt Notes: Chimecho is legit one of the most adorable pokémon in the entire series. Love that lil' ghostly floating cute bell thing.
Choro Notes: The Razor Fang increases the crit. hit ratio of the holder, but it also will evolve Gligar into Gliscor if it levels up at night while holding it!
Oh why are you awake?
Noctowl
Noctowl never fails at catching prey in darkness. This Pokémon owes its success to its superior vision that allows it to see in minimal light, and to its soft, supple wings that make no sound in flight. If it flips its head upside down, it's a sign that it is engaged in very complex thinking.
Choro Notes: I still like these! They're very Sp.Defensey/spongey. They're the opposite of Pidgeot, Staraptor, etc in that respect. I enjoy them!
Zorak Notes: INDEED.
HulkaMatt Notes: BIG 'OL OWL WITH BIG 'OL EYES and uh . . . I got nothin else to say. It's an owl. Hooooo.
Huh?
Ah! I know that one!
Heh, I punished it!
It does so!
whether it has a shrine or not!"
Nuh uh!
. . . I have an idea!
. . . but where am I gonna find a Thundurus?
You are not Thundurus!
Bronzong
Bronzong brought rains by opening portals to another world. It was revered as a bringer of plentiful harvests. One caused a news sensation when it was dug up at a construction site after a 2000-year sleep.
Choro Notes: If you put a Bronzong to sleep, its eyes turn white. How mysterious. Its dreamworld ability is shared only with Bronzor and Aggron's family. It . . . . makes Bronzong heavier. Yep.
Zorak Notes: FUCK OFF BRONZONG
HulkaMatt Notes: IT'S A BLUE SANDCASTLE ROBOT WITH . . . . . . . . . YEAH!
Choro Notes: Trick Room is a move that reverses how speed works. Slower monsters will move before faster monsters for five turns. Kind of neat!
- - -
Choro Notes: Thundurus (and Tornadus for White) are each unique to one of the version. To do this event you have to find someone who will let you borrow theirs. I got one from Zorak!
Thundurus
The spikes on its tail discharge immense bolts of lightning. It flies around the Unova region firing off lightning bolts. Countless charred remains mar the landscape of places through which Thundurus has passed. Due to the forest fires it causes it is disliked.
Choro Notes: It's like if Zapdos was a big angry muscular raijin instead of a big angry pointy thunderbird!
Zorak Notes: Ah yes, Raijin, bro to Fujin (Tornadus). He occasionally hangs out with Namazu and sighs, sighs an awful lot.
HulkaMatt Notes: THUNDURUS IS A MOTHA' FUCKIN RUNAWAY CLOUD AND HE LOOKS COOL AS HELL. BUT ALSO LOOKS LIKE A MARIO RPG ENEMY
- - -
Hey, hey, hey. You two chill out!
Ah!
You ain't intimidatin' me!
Whatup?
Eh. Was worth a shot . . .
Hey I just caught the local farmy god guy. Yeah, go Haley!
Total balls used:
Quick Ball x1
Dusk Ball x3
Landorus
Lands visited by Landorus grant such bountiful crops that it has been hailed as "The Guardian of the Fields." The energy that comes pouring from its tail increases the nutrition in the soil, making crops grow to great size. It creates this energy from the forces of lightning and wind.
Choro Notes: HE'S BIG. AND HE WANTS YOU. He's basically got Rayquaza's gimmick when you look at it.
Zorak Notes: So, while Tornadus and Thundurus are based off of Fujin and Raijin, Landorus is based off another figure from Japanese mythology: Inari. Inari is sort of neat in that he started as sort of a minor regional kami worshiped as an agricultural kami that could be prayed to for increased crops, dating back to at least 700-ish AD. Worship of him ended spreading alllll over Japan, and shrines to him are now pretty common. He's a pretty cool guy. Foxes are his messenger, which could explain some things about the Pokémon that hang out with Landorus . . .
HulkaMatt Notes: The Mr. Satan of the runaway clouds. Look at that fuckin' facial hair. Fuck yeah.
